Greece Marriage License in Monroe County

Marriage licenses in Greece are filed through Monroe County. The Greece Town Clerk issues marriage licenses, but any town or city clerk in Monroe County can do the same thing. The Monroe County Clerk's office handles land records and court filings but does not process marriage licenses. That job falls to the local town and city clerks.

Under DRL Section 13, any couple can get a marriage license from any clerk's office in New York State. You do not need to live in Greece or Monroe County. The City of Rochester, which borders Greece to the south, also has a clerk's office that processes marriage licenses. How to Get a Greece Marriage License

Both partners must appear together at the Greece Town Clerk's office. The address is One Vince Tofany Boulevard, Greece, NY 14612. Call (585) 225-2000 with any questions before your visit. Bring a valid photo ID like a driver's license, passport, or state-issued non-driver ID card. You also need a certified birth certificate. Have your Social Security number ready.

If either partner was married before, bring the final divorce decree or a death certificate for the former spouse. All prior marriages must be fully ended before you apply. The fee is $40. After the clerk processes your form, you get the license right away. A 24-hour waiting period then applies per DRL Section 13-b. You cannot marry the same day. Your Greece marriage license stays valid for 60 days. Active military get 180 days. The license works anywhere in New York State.

After Your Greece Wedding Ceremony

The officiant must return the signed marriage license to the Greece Town Clerk within five days of the wedding. The officiant, both spouses, and at least one witness all sign at the ceremony.
