Yonkers Marriage License in Westchester County

Yonkers sits in Westchester County, just north of New York City. The Yonkers City Clerk handles marriage license applications for the city, but any town or city clerk in Westchester County can issue one. You do not have to live in Yonkers or Westchester County to apply here. DRL Section 13 lets any couple apply at any clerk office in the state. Your Yonkers-issued license works for a wedding held anywhere in New York.

The Yonkers City Clerk is an official appointed by the Yonkers City Council to a five-year term. Deputy City Clerks are also Council appointees. The office handles much more than marriage licenses. It covers birth and death records, dog licenses, burglar alarm permits, towing permits, and passport services.

Visit the Yonkers City Clerk's Office with your partner during business hours. Marriage license hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. On Tuesdays, the office stays open late until 6:30 p.m. If you come on a Tuesday, try to arrive by 6:00 p.m. to give the staff time to finish your application before closing. No appointment is needed.

Both partners must bring a certified long-form birth certificate that shows their parents' names. You also need a valid photo ID. The clerk accepts driver's licenses, passports, and state-issued non-driver IDs. If you were divorced before, bring certified copies of all divorce judgments in English. If a prior spouse died, bring the original death certificate in English. Documents in other languages must come with a notarized English translation. Anyone under 18 cannot get a marriage license.

The fee is $40. Pay with cash, check, money order, or credit card. A 2.25% fee applies to credit and debit card transactions with a $1.49 minimum charge. After you get the license, a 24-hour waiting period kicks in per DRL Section 13-b. You cannot get married on the same day you pick up the license. The license is good for 60 days.

Yonkers Marriage License Copies

A certified copy of a marriage license issued in Yonkers costs $10 from the city clerk. Bring your photo ID to pick one up in person, or send a mail request with a notarized letter, the names of both spouses, the marriage date, and a check for $10 payable to the Yonkers City Clerk. The New York State Department of Health also issues certified copies for $30 each with 10 to 12 weeks of processing time.
