Oyster Bay Marriage License Filing

The Town of Oyster Bay is in Nassau County. The Town Clerk issues marriage licenses, but you can also apply at other clerk offices across Nassau County or anywhere in New York State. Per DRL Section 13, any couple can apply at any town or city clerk in the state. Your Oyster Bay license is valid for a ceremony held at any location in New York.

The Nassau County Clerk does not issue marriage licenses. That responsibility falls to the town clerks. Nassau County has three towns: Oyster Bay, Hempstead, and North Hempstead. Bring a valid photo ID and your birth certificate. If you were married before, you need a certified divorce decree or a death certificate for a prior spouse. The fee is $40. No blood test is needed in New York State.

Several incorporated villages within the Town of Oyster Bay also use the town's registrar for vital records. These include Brookville, Centre Island, Cove Neck, Lattingtown, Laurel Hollow, Matinecock, Mill Neck, Muttontown, Old Brookville, Oyster Bay Cove, and Upper Brookville. Under DRL Section 14, the town clerk prepares the license and hands it to the couple. After your ceremony, the officiant returns the signed license to the clerk within five days.

Certified copies of marriage records from Oyster Bay cost $10 from the Town Clerk. You can request one in person with a photo ID or by mail.
